Humanitarian Technology Challenge: Leveraging the Power of Innovation to Improve the Lives of People in Developing Countries

 

 

The Humanitarian Technology Challenge (HTC) is a ground-breaking partnership between the IEEE, the United Nations Foundation, the Vodafone Foundation Technology Partnership and the IEEE Foundation.  The HTC seeks to identify, and works to solve some of the world’s most pressing challenges, initially focusing on:

·         Reliable Electricity

·         Data Connectivity Between Rural District t Health Offices

·         Individual ID Tied to Health Records

A unique, open source collaboration between technologists, humanitarians, students and government employees, HTC uses an online platform to share ideas and feedback in real-time; contribute content through edits and uploads, and participate in web brainstorming sessions.

 

 

Harold Tepper is the IEEE’s Senior Technical Project Manager for the Humanitarian Technology Challenge, responsible for all aspects of the initiative.  Over the course of his career, he has managed more than 150 projects in a broad range of disciplines including business process improvement, technology transfer, new product development, regulatory compliance, business continuity, new service/product launch, and business expansion. 

Mr. Tepper spent the majority of his career in the technology, software and professional services industries as an entrepreneur, operational executive and management consultant.  As an entrepreneur, he co-founded a business intelligence and strategic consulting and research firm, grew it to revenues of over $4 Million and sold to larger entity.  As an operational executive, he had high profile, successful assignments in product development and management, marketing, strategic account sales and technical support.    As an management consultant, he developed and managed relationships with, and consulted to executives in a broad range of Fortune 500 companies in the areas of marketing and channel strategy, product launch and competitive positioning, marketing program development, marketing and sales effectiveness, organizational design and business model transformation.  He holds a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering and an MBA in Marketing/Finance.
