  • B. S. Computer Science, Washington State University, 1974 (Summa Cum Laude)

EMPLOYMENT

July 1998 – Present, Chief Scientist, Information & Computer Science Research Laboratory, Telcordia Technologies. My current areas of interest are in eCommerce and Next Generation Network (NGN) applications and services. I have made technical and managerial contributed to various R&D projects, including work on the following projects:

  • world number service

  • online regulatory database

  • algorithms for capacity routing in WDM optical networks

  • Cente micropayments system

  • eCheck electronic payment system

August 1994 – June 1998, Executive Director, Information Technologies Research Department, Telcordia Technologies. Managed a department within the Applied Research Area consisting of four diverse, interdisciplinary research groups and about forty researchers and advanced developers with backgrounds in the Computing and Mathematical Sciences (about 75% Ph.D. and 25% MS). The groups covered the following areas:

  • Network design and optimization;

  • Traffic analysis and engineering;

  • Security and cryptography;

  • Distributed computing and database systems.

Coordinated interactions with and obtaining funding from numerous internal customers, RBOC customers, Fortune 500 corporations, international research labs, government funding agencies and universities. Research and prototyping projects have included

  • Network Design Toolkits for SONET/WDM, ATM, Frame Relay & Fiber Access networks

  • Broadband Traffic Analysis, Modeling and Tools for "Fractal Packet Traffic"

  • VRA technologies for fast, secure cryptosystems for encryption, authentication, hashing and signature

  • Real-time, interactive electronic billing and payment mechanisms

  • Client-Server systems for Services Management System/800, Local Number Portability

February 1987 - January 1991 Director, Combinatorics and Optimization Research Group, Telcordia Technologies (formerly Bellcore). Founded, staffed and managed this research group whose goal was to perform world-class research while making contributions to the business.

August 1983 - January 1987, Member of Technical Staff, Discrete Mathematics Department, Telcordia Technologies
