JAIN / Parlay / OSA Activities @ Telcordia

Telcordia has been a leader and active participant in the Next Generation Network (NGN) industry fora such as JAIN and Parlay defining open Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for NGN softswitches and other NGN elements.

General information on JAIN and Parlay can be obtained here.  Within the JAIN and Parlay consortia Telcordia activities have included the following

Aepona, Fujitsu, Hughes Software Systems, Incomit, ipVerse, JNetX, NEC, NTT Comware, NTT Labs, OKI

    Public Information:

  • Telcordia is Specification lead for the Expert Group defining a Java API for the MGCP protocol, a key protocol in NGN systems (JSR 23).  Telcordia has been in charge of leading the definition of the specification, as well as providing a Reference Implementation (RI) and Test Compatibility Kit (TCK).

  • JAIN Service Creation Environment (SCE)

  • Telcordia is co-Specification lead (with Hughes Software Sysyems) for the Expert Group defining the Service Creation Environment (SCE) specification (JSR 100).  This group started work in 1Q01.

  • JAIN Coordination and Transactions (JCAT)

  • Telcordia is Specification lead for the Expert Group defining a richer call control model, beyond JCC, that allows definition of advanced A/IN CS-2 services (JSR 122).  This group started work in 2Q01.

  • Parlay Emergency Telecommunications Services (ETS) Working Group

  • Telcordia is Chair for the Working Group defining Parlay APIs to allow authorized users to obtain a high probability of completion for emergency calls during a crisis situation when public networks may be restricted due to atack,
    damage, congestion or faults.

  • Parlay X (PX) Working Group

  • Telcordia is co-chair (with BTexact Technologies) of the Working Group defining a simplified XML-based API that allows rapid creation of innovative applications, by programmers who are not necessarily telecommunications experts, using a higher layer of abstraction than the current Parlay APIs.
